…and inside was a bunch of…

In today’s fan submissions feature, we’ve got some sick beats from 2Sang, J-MACHine, and Neojock. We’ve also got some excellent artwork from Sorakokiri and MalixDexide. And to top it off, we’ve got some enemy and game mechanic concepts from CalixJumi, Cheesiest, Gamepopper, MalixDexide, and Masamune.

It basically is like an instrumental way of saying, “Voila!” That would be cool, a town or a character that was from another decade completely…

Arcade Theme – By 2Sang

This piece in 3 words: funky, techno, Arcade.
It’s a little different than Eartbound or Mother 3’s arcade.

I made a song that would play in some icy region or in a mysterious cave. Also kinda sounds like some sorta ship fulla fog and junk. Enjoy.

    Hey The Dave,
    Do you get to name the characters in the game, or are the names automatically assigned.

  2. The Dave The Dave Says:

    You get to name them.

    See here.
    And here.
    Also here.
    And finally, here.

  3.  Thrasher Says:

    haha Sorry, chronic insomnia really affects ones mind, so I’ve been kind of in and out lately.

  4. The Dave The Dave Says:

    Quite alright. ;)

  5. Ben Coff Eraser Says:

    when you submit a fan submission

    is it supposed to go up in the “fan submissions” section immediately?

  6.  Zaxtur Says:

    Umm… most of 2Sangs songs are just the same 5-10 notes of music repeated over and over. Mother games all have much longer, more elaborate music with distinct melodies. I don’t think these submissions are a very good fit for Mother 4.

  7. The Dave The Dave Says:

    @Eraser
    They must be approved first. When they’ve been approved they’ll show up in the fan submissions section. I only do features after I’ve approved so many.

    @Zaxtur
    While that may be true, there was at least some effort put into them, so I approved them. Perhaps a change to the guidelines would be good now that we’ve got more content out.

  8. Christian Hatcher Zephys Says:

    It’s cool because the city theme reminds me of the theme we have set up for our big city. Alot of the stuff we get corresponds with stuff we already have. I guess alot of people have similar visions of a Mother 4.

    I actually really like 2Sang’s work. A couple of her peices really stand out to me.
    I’m also really liking JMachine’s newest song.

  9. Jimmy Theed J-MACHine Says:

    Whilst they are pitifully short in legnth, i have to agree with Dave and Zephys. They’re by no means bad songs, and a couple are, in fact, really catchy little loops.

    And aww, Zephys, you flatter me! In hindsight, i probebly could’ve done more with the song then i ended up doing… But after about 3 days of near continous work, most of which involved countless program crashes and lost progress, i just wanted to get the damn thing finished. Eh, still, it’s probebly for the best; the sheer amout of samples in the bloody thing were already capping the memory limit my program allows me for each song already, and spending any longer trying to make the samples trying to sound trippy enough was already doing a number on my lack-of-sleep ridden mind at the time.
    … I’ve got to stop typing so damn much.

    I’m happy it’s gone down well this end of things as well as over at Starmen, at least. It makes the pain worth it. XD

  10. Jimmy Theed J-MACHine Says:

    And because i completely forgot to say it in my last comment; I personally love Neojock’s peice. The combination of a somewhat simple beat, the smooth melody, that harsh synth sample that kicks in near the end, and that distorted-sounding loop that pops up once or twice (Which i swear sounds almost exactly like something Aubry Hodges would’ve done for the Playstation version of Doom. Which is a GOOD thing) are all neatly rolled together in an incredibly pleasing way.

  11.  Douhneill Says:

    Wow. The fans here are so great, their submissions have been getting more pages than the actual game itself (which annoys me, because I need some more ’source’ for another wallpaper).
    There’s a lot of music in this one, which annoys me because I can only really have time to be here at my school. but, considering the stuff that I’ve been hearing before, I’m sure I’ll be impressed. I’ll always kind of envy people with even slight decency in composing music, keep up the good work.
    I do have a question for The Dave, though. Nothing necessarily about the game itself, but what’s it like to work on it? What are the ‘highs and lows’ of what you’re doing? And is there any aspect of what you’re doing that you didn’t see coming when you started the project?
    Of course, you don’t have to answer, I’m just wondering. Regardless, I’m sure that everyone is supporting you 100%, right here, from the sidelines, and we’re eager to help out.

  12.  sorakokiri Says:

    I must say Neojock’s piece was awesome. I dunno, ounds pretty faniliar from something like chrono trigger, or even final fantasy. I love it, and excellent job!

  13. bart craanen ox7bart7xo Says:

    I do not know if you people know but misters itoi’s(do not know first name) inspiration came from john Lennon’s song Mother. no really he said so himself. and other music from the Beatles(like the album sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band) all i want to say is maybe you should use that a li’l you know. too and to back up this story search on youtube for the videos

  14.  Urfbwnd3 Says:

    I have one question. Will It work on macs?

  15. The Dave The Dave Says:

    That’s yet to be determined, but as of now its looking like a yes. ;)

  16.  paulg27 Says:

    Ppl, all of the songs are great, good job everyone. Im really looking forward to play this game!!!!

  17.  PSI kid Says:

    I want to submit a picture, but it won’t let me even though I followed the file guideline.:’(

  18. The Dave The Dave Says:

    What type of file are you submitting? (.png, .gif or .jpg?) And what is the size of the file? (How many KB or MB?)

  19. Bryce Gubernik BryceGub Says:

    Im just gonna say that being a HUGE Earthbound fan and the music used in it. I have to aggure that 2sang’s songs are easily the best ones so far not only are they very Nintendo like but its almost as if they belong in an Earthbound game it has the feel and everything. Just need to make them longer (obviously these were shortened samplers) but I highly recommend that you use alot of these songs he has made for you guys.

  20.  PSI kid Says:

    The picture is .png and I am new so I’m not surest how to do things. I don’t know the file size, and I have a PC, but I don’t know how to read the size.

  21.  PSI kid Says:

    One thing has put me in a bad mood, and that’s the fact that I was about to go to Fire Spring but something happened (that might have to to do with my brother unplugging everything and putting in Shaq-fu), and now my Super Nintendo has problems with sound and all my data was reset and my brother was already past/at Magicant, but I’m going try to ask for a Super Nintendo cable for my birthday, and hopefully my mom can get it eventhough my birthday is in July.

  22.  Kamineyeahha Says:

    I just stumbled across this via youtube, and I must say I’m really excited and very impressed with everything so far.

    I really only have one main concern related to the story and everything. I know you guys plan to tie in the other games to this one, however the story of the entire Mother series is very complex. I think this is one of the reasons why the series is one of the best of all time.

    I’m just curious if you will be taking this into account with the story line.

  23. The Dave The Dave Says:

    @PSI Kid
    Hope you can get your SNES working again!

    As for the picture, right click on the file and choose “Properties” from the menu that appears. In the window that pops up, toward the center, it will tell you the size of the file. If it’s over 3 MB, then its too big. You might try shrinking the image in Paint or some photo editing software.

    @Kamineyeahha
    I’m not one of the writers, but I can say that we aim to keep the spirit of the Mother series alive in our fan game. Our goal is to get this to feel like a true Mother game, as ambitious as that may be. So yes, we are certainly taking that into account.

  24.  PSI kid Says:

    I’m trying to change it now, thanks Dave!

  25.  paulg27 Says:

    The Dave i have a question, how is this game is going to be played? i mean, will it be with an emulator and rom? or will it be a different type system? Also, do i need like a really good cpu to play it?

  26.  mother_fan Says:

    will there be a dog in the fan game like on mother 1, mother 2, and mother3?

  27. The Dave The Dave Says:

    @Paulg27
    The game will be play the same as any other computer game, download the program and give it a run. No roms or emulators here. I’m aiming to keep the system requirements at a minimum, right now the game can run on a low-end system without a problem. (Also, please see the FAQs)

    @Mother_fan
    You’ll have to wait and see! ;)

  28. liam burry-donohue ness9090 Says:
