Wow. We are getting flooded. I thought we might get to fire off our thing before another one of these.

Yeah, I wanted to do the two around the same time, but the queue got huge while I was waiting, so yeah.
Hey, could you guys tell me if you mind having all the submissions clumped together in one update? (Future updates won’t be this large, mind you.) I can do them separate no problem if you’d like though.

It’s a real pity these school computers don’t have sound capabilities or headphone ports. I would’ve liked to see what Enemy Lasagna has come up with this time around. I’m fairly interested to check out Jean-philippe’s work, too.
It’s nice to see that the fans are still submitting stuff to the site, even if it might be a wee bit overwhelming, haha! I’ll make a mental to note to do one or two peices of work for you guys at some point. I’ve been spending a few days doing brief work on music i plan to use for projects of my own, so it’ll be nice to kick back at put something out just for fun. If all goes well, i’ll have the net back at home by tomorow.

Fairly soon, after we release more content, we’re likely to be a bit more strict about what we accept from the fans as legitimate “fan submissions”. At this point, we are accepting nearly everything we receive, but once more content is available, fan works are likely to be accepted if they are true “fan works” that mirror what we’ve released. Most of what we’ve received up to this point are vague, mother-ish works, that do not neccesarily relate to mother 4. Though impressive, once we provide something for you to actually make fan-works OF, these submissions may have to be saved for a possible “Audition” forum, poll, etc. If we come up with one, which is not guaranteed. Wonderful works, folks. We can’t wait to hear more.

I feel the need to explain my presence.
I am not trying to become a part of the Mother 4 team. I am not sending in music because I feel that if I send them enough, they’ll decide they want me. I am perfectly aware they have talented musicians who are more than capable of creating the required music to the correct standard (otherwise, why would Chaisu higher them?)
In the mother series, one of the most important things to me has been the music, especially so for Mother 3. I also feel that the music is the easiest thing get wrong. I’m not saying music is hard to make, it’s quite easy to make a sweet little tune. It’s about conveying the correct emotion through music which is difficult to do and is so easy to both under and overdo.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not doubting the abilities of the current Mother 4 music makers. I’m just saying it’s easy to convey the wrong emotion through music, and I’d think it would be a big shame if, although the story was brilliant and the music was wonderful, they didn’t quite sync up. I also know that while making music, it can be hard to pull yourself away and actually listen to what you played.
What I have done, is created music to convey a variety of different moods from a completely different perspective. I am actually certain they won’t be able to use my music for anything as it is, but that isn’t the point. The point is to inspire. I’m trying to give the music makers more to work with. If any part of any of melodies happens to create the correct atmosphere for whatever it is they’re working on, it’s theirs to do what they will with it.
That is what I mean when I say they can use my music in ANY WAY.
All I’m trying to do is help the creative process.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:22 am
That’s completely understood, and I admire your way of thinking and your respect for music. I wasn’t pointing a finger or accusing anyone of doing anything wrong. I was simply doing my job and alerting the fanbase of an upcoming change in policy.
Though, when hearing you explain it like that, it may be again, reconsidered.
So far, as someone working on the storyline, and not on music, I’d say what music we do have syncs up with what it’s been assigned quite well.

Whilst i understand where you’re comming from, Zephys, i have to agree with EL. If not, even moreso. Besides one of my songs being slightly inspired by one of EL’s (The one that was made within the space of about 45 minutes and isn’t very good), my work already HAS been based around what little info you guy’s already have lying around. Joints in Need of Oil was mostly inspired by the screenshot showing the ‘living’ digger, for example, whilst When the Wind Weep’s was acctually somewhat inspired by elements of the brief story summery that’s already up on the sight, weather you believe it or not. Heck, if i’d have had the time to do so, i’d have branched out and done a little fan art as well. I’ve had a rough idea of something i’ve wanted to do ever since i’d seen Chase’s design, acctually. My point being, i techniclly already HAVE done legitimate fan-work based on what you’ve got up. Just in a very ass-backwards way.
Relating to what EL said, as well, about the music. I agree wholeheartedly. Whilst i don’t deny the work i’ve submitted here is far from the best i can do, and i will admit that i personally don’t think i’m all that good as a composer in general anyway, when i get the time to do so, and i focus on what i’m doing, i try and craft songs perfectly, trying to fit them to the emition i want to convey. Whilst Joints in Need of Oil and A Little Spice with your Enemy of Choice? where both made very quickly, and mostly for a bit of fun, i spent a lot longer on When the Wind Weeps, trying to make it sound as melencholy and lonely as i possibly could, along with hints of paranoia and anxiousness, if that makes absolutely ANY sense.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that The Snowbodies are stupidly, brilliantly talented musicians and i wouldn’t think of saying otherwise, nor was my reason for submitting the music i made me ‘saying’ “OMG GUISE I WRK ON MAZA 4 PLZPLZPLZPLZ?”. For one thing, i’m sure you get that as it is. It was me doing something i love doing for a project i have a strong feeling i am going to absolutely adore the final product of. All the “if you wanna use/arrange my work ect. ect.” buisness is more or less a ‘just in case’, as unlikely as it is.
TL;DR, and slightly tounge-in-cheek- Please don’t take away the ability to goof of with my lifeblood by making music for fun and not working on the 50+ soundtracks i SHOULD be working on, it’s the last sensible reason i have to waste time. D:

Such passion. I was simply being a messenger at this point. We’re agreeable people, and after seeing things explained that way, I don’t think you should have too much to worry about.
September 20th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
what software are you using to make the game?
September 20th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
The engine is built from scratch using Game Maker 7. But believe me when I say it’s not like a lot of those poorly done Game Maker games out there. I’ve put a lot of time and love into the engine.
September 21st, 2009 at 12:12 am
Saying that you’re making this game with Game Maker doesn’t do it justice, Dave.
Mother 4 is not made in Game Maker as a program. It is written from GML, the language Game Maker utilizes.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
mother 4 is only a japan game?
September 30th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Nope! It’s a fangame, meaning that its made by fans. And since those fans are American, the game will be in English. At this time however, we don’t have plans for a Japanese translation. (But that’s not to say it can’t happen. We’ll worry about that when the game is released.)

Enemy, I totally love your tunes. Awesome work.
November 11th, 2009 at 12:53 am
Well now, I know I may be new, but let me just say that you guys are already starting to seem Mother-ish already! I mean really, you guys are now composing a song that I faintly recognize in one of your pieces…
“Small Town sounds like the Goldenrod City Theme in Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal”
I’m not saying that I don’t like it, but you people really are becoming more like the actual producers by making allusions such as these.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Keep in mind that the songs featured here are from the fans of the project, and, at least in their current form, will not be used in the final product.
